About this event

VCSEP Capability and Skills Building Event - Heatwave Tabletop Exercise

Zoom Meeting

Wednesday 27th April, 10.00am - 11.30am

The Met Office's definition of a Heatwave is "an extended period of hot weather relative to the expected conditions of the area at that time of year, which may be accompanied by high humidity". This extreme type of weather event within 10 days, can cause up to 2000 deaths in England! Thus it is vital for organisations to plan and prepare for a heatwave so that we can reduce severe illnesses and mortalities, as well as to protect the most vulnerable members of our society.

The Voluntary and Community Sector Emergencies Partnership (VCSEP) has arranged a workshop for citizens to help plan and prepare for a heatwave.

The workshop involves two tabletop exercises and will cover:

Identifying and understanding need

What information is available to build a picture of those likely to require support; are there data and insights which can inform this; who are our disproportionately impacted or underserved communities and how are they affected?

Providing support

Who can assist (or is already active in responding), how are offers coordinated and connected to avoid duplication, are the people offering/responding best placed?

Information flow

There will be multiple sources of information, some coming from communities, some coming out of Local Resilience Forums. How is this effectively shared to inform all parties without increasing safeguarding or data protection risks?
